The Morning Glory Project

Diagnosed with AIDS in 1985, when the first HIV tests became available, Mark S. King felt he’d been given the death sentence that took far too many in those years and since. Somehow Mark’s body endured until the life-saving medications could come along. Today, he credits his “fabulous disease” with giving him the gift of empathy for others.  In his GLAAD award-winning blog, My Fabulous Disease, and in his role as an AIDS activist and educator, with, candor, humor, and great heart, he continues to share his story of surviving HIV and drug addiction, and the true freedom of life outside of every closet.

His book, A Place Like This, chronicles his life in Los Angeles during the dawn of the epidemic. “I’m a gay HIV positive addict in recovery,” Mark is fond of saying.  “What’s not to love?”
